Writing of a book report is quite an interesting task. Sure, many students do not like it, since they are required to read and analyze books. However, sometimes it is impossible to avoid tasks on writing book reports. This is where major problems begin. For some students just reading a book is not enough. Many of us simply write the plot of a book, naively thinking that such paper is a book report. Nothing of the kind! A book report should contain critique, analysis and personal viewpoints. In this article we will review the most creative and unusual ways of writing a book report.
Make a top 10 list of the book. Just write down any 10 things that really impressed you in the book. These may be both positive and negative things. Explain why you like and do not like them. Share your opinion of the selected problems, characters, events.
Write a creative letter to the author. Imagine that you have an opportunity to write a letter to the author. What would you write in such a letter? You may ask him why he created such characters or why the book failed to have a happy end. You can also share own view point and ask author whether or not you are right. For example, the first sentences may sound like this: “Dear Author, I really enjoyed your book. However, I think that the plot of your story is somewhat strange…” Just ask anything you want, but remember that your questions should demonstrate your understanding of problems and characters of the book.
Create TV or radio ad. Advertising runs modern business. Imagine you have got 1-2 mins to get readers interested and make them buy the book. There are no limits for your creativity! If this is a book written 200 years ago, you can still use modern images and concepts. Of course, calling Hamlet a psychological thriller is really too much, however, modern interpretations can actually make your book report interesting.
Contrast two books. Sometimes, contrasts are better than descriptions and analysis. Choose two books that you think are different and compare characters and plot events. It is through the contrast that you can express your own attitude and make proper analysis. Comparison of two books by the same author is also a good idea.
Prepare an imaginary interview with one of the book characters. This can be a very interesting interview since you ask questions and give answers all by yourself. Without any doubt, such interview will demonstrate your viewpoints and attitudes towards the book. Besides, you will have an opportunity to analyze main characters. This kind of a book report will surely be funny and exciting.
